Obviously the Ground Up team is very proud of the new Gogarth North book, but it is always heartening to realise that others agree. Thus far it has been very well received, for example, Steve Crowe of Climbonline.com described it (in an UKClimbing.com thread) as:

“Perhaps the most inspirational definitive climbing guide ever.”

Karin Magog writing a review for Climbonline.com summarised it thus:

“All in all an excellent production, a big well done to all the Ground Up team and their editor Simon Panton. I’m looking forward to Gogarth South but in the meanwhile it’s off to Main Cliff this summer.”

John Yates writing a review for UKClimbing.com described it as a:

“…testimony to the passion and commitment of the vibrant climbing community that flourishes in North Wales.”

Prolific Gogarth new router, Al Evans, writing for the forthcoming CC Centenary Journal, summed up with the following statement:

“Ground Up have stepped in with an excellent guide that was sorely needed, I hope the Gogarth South guide is as good. Good luck to them.”

All that being said, some reviewers have quite fairly highlighted a minor printing error. Everything went well with the production, apart from one small issue which affects four pages in the latter section of the guide.

Pages 241, 244, 253 and 256 have a narrow strip down the edge of the outside of the page where the black ink is missing. On at least one of the pages this is hard to spot and has not had much impact, on the others the last or first words are missing from each line of the text. Generally speaking it is quite easy to surmise what the missing words are though.

”This printing error has occurred in all of the books. When the delivery arrived in Llanberis I spotted the problem, but on balance I viewed the errors to be too minor to justify rejecting an entire print run. Obviously if any purchasers of the guide feel disgruntled they can return their copy to the shop for a refund. This sort of thing does happen occasionally in printing; I hope that the slight blemish hasn’t tainted anybody’s view of this great book.” Explained Ground Up editor, Simon Panton.

For those who want to check if they guessed the missing words correctly we have posted pdfs of the affected pages:

Tsunami Zawn p240-241

Breakwater Quarry p244-245

Porthllechog p256-257

These can be printed off, or if you want less faff just copy in the missing words by hand.
