A selection of pages from the newly published 2nd edition of the classic guide North Wales Rock can now be viewed in the download section. The new layout, which has a more relaxed and open feel is not just about improving aesthetics. The topos bleed off the page edges and because they are bigger they are easier to fathom. The point size of the text has also been slightly increased to aid readability.
Other design tweaks include the introduction of colour coded route numbers to indicate the different grade ranges. Plus we’ve added grid references for all the crags which should be given in rescue situations.
There is also a brand new updated graded list which should be the cause of much colourful discussion. It is of course a concerted attempt to place all the routes in a relative order of difficulty. However one wo/man’s living end is another’s walk in the park so complete agreement is unlikely. And on reflection perhaps Aardvark should have been shunted to the top of the E2s. Anyway, there are 686 classic Welsh routes waiting to be ticked off – so what are you doing next weekend?
