Yesterday afternoon the brand new 2nd edition of North Wales Rock was delivered to V12 Outdoor in Llanberis. Judging by the number of email enquiries arriving at Ground Up over the last few months this is a much anticipated release. If you want to get hold of a copy quickly, V12 is poised ready to fire out mail orders with a next day service.

“I’m really pleased with it, especially the construction. The cover card is much tougher yet we have managed to reduce the spine width and make significant reductions in the overall weight. In fact it’s not that dissimilar to some of the single area definitive guides.”

Enthused guide editor, Simon Panton, before adding:

“Both myself and the other Ground Up researchers have covered a lot of territory over the last 12 months. As ever the devil is in the detail and we have worked hard to improve the quality of the information in the guide. That means better descriptions, more accurate maps and topos. There have also been some significant technical improvements, such as making the text more readable by increasing the point size and increasing the size of topos by bleeding them, off the page edge. The first edition of North Wales Rock was a great book, but the 2nd edition is a considerably more accomplished production.”

The first edition of the guide was published in 2007; it soon became recognised as a modern classic. It was certainly a very popular and inspiring book, however like all good things; there is always room for improvement. Following an exhausting round of research over the last year the guide underwent a significant revamp with extensive improvements throughout, including the introduction of more low grade routes and numerous description refinements. Nationwide distribution is being handled by Cordee and the books will be available at all good climbing shops next week.
