This year’s Llanberis Mountain Film festival, which takes place this weekend coming (7th – 9th March), looks set to be an exciting event. Anticipated highlights include The LLAMFF Quiz, which is hosted by George Smith and Noel Craine, and is on Friday night at the Dolbadarn Hotel. Ground Up and V12 Outdoor
are sponsoring some of the free spot prizes. As a well established LLAMFF tradition this always attracts an enthusiastic and merry crowd – make sure you make it down, but be sure to pick your team members carefully, some of those questions can be very tricky.
UKClimbing.com are hosting a special pre-show mini quiz, with four bonus questions being delivered by big George. Check the following link to get a sample of what is in store on Friday night: UKC LLAMFF Quiz.
Saturday night sees the showing of George Smith’s exciting new film, Upside Down Wales – a quirky look at the world of roof climbing in North Wales. This is followed by the real star event: the re-showing of the late Paul Williams’ seminal slide show, Slate of the Art. Paul originally toured this remarkable slide show back in the late 80s at the height of the first slate climbing boom.
This time there will be several old school slateheads, such as John Redhead, Johnny Dawes and Trevor Hodgson providing commentary and anecdotes about Paul and the 80s climbing scene in Llanberis. George Smith will also be reading exerts from Martin Crook’s Diary of a Slatehead, a fascinating and often hilarious record of this heady period of climbing history. Extensive sections of Martin’s diary will be appearing in the forthcoming Ground Up North Wales Slate guide, which is due out this summer.
There are numerous other enticing lectures, slide shows (Andy Cave, Nick Bullock, Leo Dickinson, Jon Ratcliffe, Chris Davies, Mark Dicken to name but a few), and all the latest films to be seen throughout the weekend, including Psyche, Hard XS, Committed and King Lines.
All in all it looks set to be the best LLAMFF ever – make sure you’re there!
The full programme is available on the LLAMFF website.
