Ground Up has donated £265 to the North Wales Bolt Fund to help pay for the re-equipping work that Ian Lloyd Jones and Phil Targett have carried out at the long forgotten limestone crags around the Benllech area on Anglesey. There are numerous trad and sport routes (through the F5+ - F6c and VS – E3 grade range) dating back to 1991, none of which were ever formally documented.

These crags, along with the recently re-equipped Fedw Fawr crag will feature in the forthcoming Gogarth North guide, which is close to being finished. Details of the routes can be found on the Gogarth wiki

Chris Parkin (along with a small but dedicated team of local climbers) continues to do a sterling job managing and coordinating the North Wales Bolt Fund. However there is a desperate need for more volunteers to come forward and carry out the re-equipping work. Chris and Mark Reeves have produced a superb training film showing the correct method for placing the new resin bolts. To view this go to: Placing Resin Bolts with Capsules

If you have been on a training session already please do put that knowledge to good use and pick off some of the outstanding routes, either in the slate quarries or on the Ormes. There is a list of re-equipping projects on the Slate wiki: Slate Re-bolting Projects, and a record of the work carried out to date. Similar information can be found on the North Wales Limestone wiki too.

The North Wales Bolt Fund relies on donations from the climbing community and companies associated with climbing. Bolts cost money and stainless ones even more! Drills, resin and static ropes all eat away at the donations so it needs constantly topping up. Donations can be sent to: NWBF, Llysfaen, Lon Brynteg, Glyn Garth, Menai Bridge, LL59 5NU or collected at the following places: V12 Outdoor - Llanberis, Joe Brown - Llanberis & Capel, Great Arete - Bangor or The Beacon Climbing Wall. Cheques should be made out to: North Wales Bolt Fund.

The crag photos displayed on the right show the main sections of the Benllech crags.
