The next Ground Up project will be a new North Wales Slate guide. Work on the guide is well underway; the main authors, Pete Robins and Mark Reeves have already done a considerable amount of work on the new script. The new guide, replete with full colour topos, fresh descriptions and mind blowing action shots, is slated (ho,ho!) for release in late 2007. Watch this space for progress updates.

But, who are the authors, you might be wondering? Well, obviously their talents are many and varied; here’s a bite size summary of Pete and Mark:

Pete is a well-known top standard climber, with one of the most accomplished onsight CVs in the British climbing scene. He lives in Llanberis, and spends his daytimes completing a phd study in Oceanography at Bangor University. Pete is a slate fanatic, with an impressive tick list consisting of virtually every hard route in the quarries, save for The Very Big and the Very Small and The Quarryman.

Mark is super keen climber, with a wealth of experience, including big wall climbing destinations such as Yosemite, Alaska and the Lotus Flower Tower. Mark has been a regular face on the Llanberis scene for many years and he has a strong association with the slate quarries, having prospected a number of new lines. (You may also have spotted him belaying Leo on Bungle's Arete on the front cover of the old Slate guide.) Mark is a qualified mountaineering instructor and he runs climbing and scrambling courses from his Llanberis base; do check out his rather funky website for more details: www.markreevesclimbing.com.

Vital contributions are also coming from a team of die-hard slate activists, such as Mark Dicken, Jon Ratcliffe, Rob Wilson, James McHaffie and Adam Hocking.
